Architect Barbara Bestor discusses the restoration/reimagination of the Hafif Residence in Live Oak Canyon. Designed in 1953 by Foster Rhodes Jackson a Frank Lloyd Wright disciple for local attorney Herb Hafif, the house was expanded over the years and was one of several compounds FRJ built in Live Oak Canyon including his own home and studio, a modernist masterpiece. The finished project was published in Architectural Digest and Bestor will discuss the restoration process and show the finished results.
"Wright's influence is obvious, but Jackson had his own distinct interpretation of organic modernism," notes LA-based architect Barbara Bestor, who recently completed an exhaustive restoration and expansion of a phenomenal house originally authored by Jackson in 1953 and enlarged by the architect in phases over the following decades. "He had very specific ideas about how houses grow and evolve.
